Fire Protection Audit Checklist

Fire Alarm System
1.     Is the F.A.S certified?
2.     Is the F.A.S tested regularly?


Automatic Fire Sprinkler System (AFSS)
1.     Are the inside stand pipes and valves inspected regularly?
2.     Are the outside private fire hydrants flushed on a routine preventive maintenance schedule at least once a year?
3.     Are AFSS water control valves, and air and water pressure checked weekly/periodically as required?
4.     Is the maintenance of AFSS assigned to responsible persons or to a sprinkler contractor?
5.     Are sprinkler heads protected by metal guards when exposed to physical damage?
6.     Is proper clearance maintained below sprinkler heads?


Extinguishers
1.     Are portable fire extinguishers provided in adequate number and type?
2.     Are fire extinguishers mounted in readily accessible locations?
3.     Fire extinguishers have current inspection tags?
4.     Are fire extinguishers recharged regularly and noted on the inspection tag?
5.     Are employees periodically instructed in the use of extinguishers and fire protection procedures?


Doors/Exit
1.     Are fire doors not blocked open?
2.     Are fire doors and shutters in good operating condition?
3.     Are fire doors and shutters unobstructed and protected against obstructions, including their counterweights?
4.     Are fire doors and shutter fusible links in place?
5.     Are exits not obstructed and kept unlocked during normal business hours or special events?
6.     Are exits properly marked, exit signs illuminated?


Plan/Documentation
1.     Good housekeeping practiced - excess paper, computer cartons, and trash removed
2.     Office has current emergency action plan - occupants trained upon initial hire and as necessary thereafter
3.     Is your local fire department well acquainted with your facilities, its location and specific hazards?
4.     Electric space heaters only as approved by Facilities Engineering
